Brake calipers are the devices that house the brake pads and that fit over the brake disc or brake rotor. They allow the brake pads to fasten down on the brake rotor, creating friction between the brake pads and brake discs to slow or stop your wheel from motion.
To better understand the brake caliper's role, here is a quick illustratration of the processes that happen when applying your brakes: When you step on your brake pedal, this creates hydraulic pressure and sends brake fluid from the master cylinder through brake lines to the brake caliper. This pressure allows the pistons within the caliper to push the brake pads against the brake disc.
We offer loaded calipers which include hardware and brake pads and semi-loaded calipers which include the caliper and hardware only for most applications.
